PERSONAL INFORMATION WE COLLECT

When you visit the Site, we automatically collect certain information about your device, including information about your web browser, IP address, time zone, and some of the cookies that are installed on your device. Additionally, as you browse the Site, we collect information about the individual web pages that you view, what websites or search terms referred you to the Site, and information about how you interact with the Site. We refer to this automatically-collected information as “Device Information.”

We collect Device Information using the following technologies:

– “Cookies” are data files that are placed on your device or computer and often include an anonymous unique identifier. For more information about cookies, and how to disable cookies, visit allaboutcookies.org.
– “Log files” track actions occurring on the Site, and collect data including your IP address, browser type, Internet service provider, referring/exit pages, and date/time stamps.
– “Web beacons,” “tags,” and “pixels” are electronic files used to record information about how you browse the Site.

Additionally when you voluntarily provide us with personal information through our contact form or through our blog’s comment function, we collect that voluntary information from you, including your first and last name, email address, website URL, and/or phone number. We refer to this information as “Voluntarily Submitted Information.”

When we speak of “Personal Information” in this Privacy Policy, we are talking both about Device Information and Voluntarily Submitted Information.

VG Wort Metrics

We use “session cookies” from the Verwertungsgesellschaft Wort (VG Wort), Munich, to measure access to texts in order to record the probability of copying. Session cookies are small units of information that a provider stores in the RAM of the visitor’s computer. A randomly generated unique identification number, referred to as a session ID, is stored in a session cookie. In addition, a cookie contains information about its origin and the storage period. Session cookies cannot store any other data. These measurements are carried out by Kantar Deutschland GmbH using the Scalable Central Measurement Method (SZM). They help to determine the copy probability of individual texts for the remuneration of legal claims of authors and publishers. We do not collect any personal data via cookies.

Some of our pages might be provided with JavaScript calls, through which we report accesses to the VG Wort. This enables us as authors to participate in the distributions of the VG Wort, which ensure the statutory remuneration for the use of copyrighted works in accordance with § 53 of the German Copyright Act.

Scalable Central Measurement System Privacy Policy

Our website uses the “Scalable Central Measurement Procedure” (SZM) from Kantar Deutschland GmbH to identify statistical parameters for determining the copy probability of texts.

Anonymous metrics are collected in the process. The access metric alternatively uses a session cookie or a signature, which is created from various automatically transmitted information from your browser. IP addresses are processed in anonymised form.

The procedure was developed in compliance with data protection regulations. The sole aim of the procedure is to determine the copying probability of individual texts.

At no time are individual users identified. Your identity always remains protected. The Scalable Central Measurement System does not target you with advertising.
